I remember the first Xmas after my father remarried and I had step-siblings. My step-sister and I got the exact same type of items, to the exact same number, but I got the dollar store knocks offs, while she got the high end, name-brand versions. Getting the cardboard “Flair fashion doll house” when your step-sister gets Mattel’s Barbie Dreamhouse is a pretty obvious difference. It was followed by a fight between my father and step-mother, where I found out 1. my father didn’t buy a single present for me and 2. My step-mother used the money she “saved” on my gifts that my father gave her for Vintage Halloween Monsters Slasher Horror Movie Horror Show T Shirt on her own kids because “it wasn’t like Lara is smart enough to know the difference” (Yet, I was smart enough to not comment on the obvious difference). I was 9. But hey at least we got to go to Disney World that day when it was closed to the public, which was something, even if I had to listen to my step-mother bragging the whole day how we owed it all to her being employed there. I remember the XMas when I was about 6 with my mother’s family at their farmhouse. Decorating the Xmas tree we had cut from the backyard on Xmas eve, tons of cookies and dessert breads, waking up to presents under the tree. My grandmother giving me a snowsuit so I could build my first snowman. My great-grandfather letting me play on his walker, and his Dalmatian Barney following me all over the house. I broke a tooth on the coffee table and thought it was funny.
My sister and I tried our best to help, but we couldn’t shovel that deep of a Vintage Halloween Monsters Slasher Horror Movie Horror Show T Shirt! However we helped by making sandwiches and juice or water for lunches. I know, those weren’t warm meals, but this was before microwaves were cheap enough for us to have one, and we were too young to be trusted at a hot stove without supervision, so sandwiches and water it was! They never once complained. It was 3 days til Christmas when Mom sat my sister and I on the couch with a very important message. “I just got a call from Mrs. Claus and she said Christmas might be a few days late because Santa has a bad cold. He sends his apologies, but he doesn’t feel very good right now.” My sister (having the kind of belief in Santa Claus and innocence that only a 4 year old can possess) said”Well…Mom? Just call Mrs. Claus back. Tell her to give Santa a couple aspirin and he will be just fine by morning. OK?” Mom promised to do just that. Christmas morning dawn saw a beautiful decorated and lit tree, with a few gifts (including a small child’s kitchen for the both of us) under it! Several decades later I found out our neighbors heard what Mom and my sister talked about and they all couldn’t let us down! They spent all Christmas Eve night setting EVERYTHING up for us! That night, we all made the rounds to everyone’s houses, and all those Christmas “conspirators” pretended to be “surprised” as my sister and I told them what Santa brought to our home “He even brought us a pretty tree with decorations and lights!” Sometimes, when your Christmas seems so down, if you listen close enough, you can just about hear a little 4 year old girl tell her mom “ Don’t worry. Everything will be OK!

So to Christmas…first the tree at least 3 weeks out cause it makes the house smell soooooo good. Most my friends grumble about trees…too messy…too much bother…but when they come to my house they smile. Of course I have to talk at least one into coming with me and by the time we’re home they are dying to decorate. I decorate at night to get the 7 strings of lights just right then to the decorations which I’ve had for ages and remember each one…where I was when I got it or who gave it to me but the best the ones from my childhood. Tinsel…most people think it’s too glitzy and very messy, but that’s the point isn’t it? So to the presents…I wrap each one differently according to their favorite colors, and as usual I try to use real ribbons…more vintage and yummy. This year I bought everyone I know Chinese Sky Lanterns…I think the coolest things on the planet! So to the food…I cook a full turkey dinner…brined and stuffed, mashed potatoes with plenty of butter and Vintage Halloween Monsters Slasher Horror Movie Horror Show T Shirt, peas with sauteed mushrooms and pearl onions and of course lots ’o’ butter…it’s Christmas so let’s pig out, besides, it’s all about the leftovers! Actually I do this every Thanksgiving if I’m by myself or a boat load of people show up. It’s a tradition I’ve done for years so I usually get a boat load of people! Christmas dinner my best friend and I put our heads together and come up with some extravaganza because she doesn’t like turkey…this year we had roast ham with all the trimmings and those silly English crackers (because she’s British) that you pull, they pop and have prizes inside including the paper crowns which we all wore!
I picked up my Model 3 on March 31, 2018 exactly two years to the day from when I stood in line to reserve it. I remember reservation day well, because I was sitting in a Starbucks in California at about 6 am when I saw someone tweet that the line in Australia in front of a Tesla store was over 100 people long. I had been planning to casually wander into the local store at lunch, but at that point I snapped shut my laptop and went there immediately. I was #137 in that line, and by the end of the day the line would grow to probably 500 or 600 people at its longest. Interestingly, these were all people who had never seen what the car would look like, nor did they know very much about it, except that it was a Tesla, and that it would cost $35,000 USD for a title model. I have never been much of a “car person,” but I am very into electronics and tech and am a huge fan of well-designed products. My fervent hope for the Model 3 before I knew anything about it was that it would have a great user interface. Not to get off topic, but the user interfaces in most cars are pretty bad. Many people have features in their cars that they cannot use, or do not even know they have. Many people mount a smart phone on their dash to find their way around.
